The U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission has approved transfer of the operating license for the James A. FitzPatrick nuclear plant in Oswego County to Exelon Corp.
The NRC ruling is the last major regulatory approval required to complete Exelon's acquisition of the plant from Entergy Corp. Exelon officials have said they anticipate closing the acquisition this month.
Exelon agreed to buy FitzPatrick in August for $110 million. Entergy had previously made plans to close the plant in January 2017. Instead, the 850-megawatt facility recently completed a refueling. (Syracuse .com, 3/2/2017)
